Drenthe is known for its idyllic nature and its historical remains of settlements and graves. In the province of Drenthe you will find the largest wetland area in all of Western Europe. In the 3,700 hectare Dwingelderveld National Park you can discover rare plants, birds, butterflies and almost all Dutch reptiles. In addition, Drenthe is inextricably linked to the Hunebedden (dolmen). In Drenthe there are still 54 of the 5000 year old passage graves. These burial chambers were built from stones weighing up to 40 tons each.
